The Greens are Coming, The Greens are Coming !!

Sunshine Coast Aquaponics
With the last few threats of winter behind us, the local farmers and their greenhouses are ramping up for a high-production spring of greens and produce.  Bring an extra shopping bag to fill up with salad greens, kale, chard and a number of other colorful, delicious leafy vegetables as we open the Powell River Open Air Farmers' Market on April 25th at 10:30am.

We'll be keeping our regular hours:

Saturday morning from 10:30 - 12:30
Sunday afternoon from 12:30 - 2:30

You'll find us there rain or shine and we're hoping for sunshine!

This year is shaping up to be even bigger than last year.  The vendor count is increasing and we're ecstatic that the increase includes farmers!   We will be 50+ vendors on opening day.   Get ready for new additions like duck and quail eggs alongside the traditional chicken eggs.  Find some new food vendors that are sharing their food and specialty drinks with the community.  Expand your grocery list to include a wide selection of frozen meats that will range from chicken and rabbit, to turkey, pork and more.  Start your grocery shopping at the market!

Have you been frequenting the Winter Market at the CRC on Joyce?   That location will continue to provide the community with local food as a new Midweek Market starts on April 29th from 4:30 - 6:30pm.  If you happen to run out of meat, eggs, bread, produce and those tasty greens then you'll have another opportunity mid-week to stock up and our local farmers have another opportunity to share their nutritious food with you!

In case you were wondering, the market is catching the last day of Powell River's Earth Week as well.  Not only can you buy your greens during Earth Week from the Farmers' Market but you can also made a commitment to buy 1 more item on your shopping list this year from the Farmers' Market.  Maybe you come for the bread and the baking, consider adding a dozen eggs, or some local jams or honey.  Maybe you come for salad greens, consider checking out local artisans for a special birthday or anniversary gift.

The confirmed vendor list will go up on Friday so that you can see who will be at the market for the weekend.  You'll find the list on this blog under the tabs called Saturday Vendors and Sunday Vendors.  We hope this helps you with your planning and maybe even finding a new vendor and exploring some new products.

Last year we had quite a lot of success with our lost and found page so it will be coming back as well.  If you have kids that come to the market, check it once in a while since we had quite a few vests, sweaters, hats and little toys turned in.

As for me, your manager, well you may have met me last year but feel free to stop by the Info booth and say hello anytime.  I want your Market experience to be a positive one and I'm always open to suggestions and feedback.  Each of you as vendors, musicians, volunteers and community members makes the market a success and it's a pleasure to get to be a part of it again this year.

The greens are coming !   The greens are coming !
