Approaching Summer

Local farmers and gardeners alike enjoyed a decent spring.  The fruit trees in a many parts of qathet have started setting fruit.  The stone fruit seems to have bloomed right in time for the bees with cherries being the first fill bowls and buckets and garner smiles.

If you enjoy harvesting wild berries I'm sure you've been keeping an eye on the blackberry bushes in your neighbourhood or maybe even the huckleberries.  The small trailing blackberries are coming ripe in areas as are the huckleberries.

Farms are seeing the bright colours of strawberries, radishes, beets, greens, cabbages and more coming to market.  Every week the inventory changes and eating local has never been easier with so many local farm stands in both urban and rural neighbourhoods.  Facebook groups are always a good place to find or sell some eggs or extra greens.  Our community does a great job of sharing and making local food accessible.

Remember that we're open every Saturday and Sunday during the summer.  (Hours below).

We've been very fortunate to have a generous donor, Robert Mackle, who is sponsoring our music program this year, allowing the market to offer local musicians not only a SOCAN licensed stage, but also some excellent compensation.  If you're a local musician or band and would like to play (from novice to professional), please contact Emily at 604-414-3327 to get yourself scheduled.

The musicians this year have already been excellent with performances by Renelle Wikene, Denis and the Menaces, Tyler Bartfai, Larry Hoesing and Brad North, Denis & the Menaces just to name a few.

15 minute open mic timeslots are available most days and we can schedule musician sets for 30 or 60 minutes.

The stage comes fully equipped with monitors, speakers, mics and most anything else you could need... and of course a stage manager, who is also one of our favourite musicians, Howard Huntley.  He'll make sure your levels are good and your sound is dialed in.  If you're lucky enough to hear Howard play sometimes, you're in for a treat.

Our food vendors are also bringing their A-game this year. Bakers who make pizza, treats, breads, pies, cookies, fresh waffles and more.  We have an amazing assortment of ethnic food this year, falafel, baclava, Mexican & Brazilian food, Pilipino BBQ, Ukrainian perogies, crepes, kimchi, sushi and the list goes on.  Bring your appetite and sample the variety.

We're always open rain or shine.  We've added 5 new handicap parking spots (3 on our main driveway and 2 off of Myrtle Ave) and we want to remind our customers that there is plenty of parking inside the grounds, please come down the driveway and park against either Quonset Hut, no need to take a long walk.
